Dave Wannstedt might want to look into bottling the water running through Dion Lewis and Jonathan Baldwin’s dorm room. Lewis continues to rack up spots on fancy watchlists, and this week, his roommate – and Pitt’s dynamic wideout – decided it was time to grab a share of the spotlight. In the Sporting News this morning, Matt Hayes called Pitt’s QB Bill Stull, Lewis and Baldwin “the best (trifecta) in the nation.” Not bad praise for an offense Wannstedt himself last week said was designed by dinosaurs.
In any case, straight from the league office, the week’s honorees…
BIG EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jonathan Baldwin • So. • WR • Pittsburgh • Aliquippa, Pa. Baldwin averaged 28.4 yards per reception, finishing with 142 yards and a touchdown on five catches to key Pittsburgh’s sixth straight win — a 27-22 decision against Notre Dame. Baldwin came up with a diving, 36-yard reception in the end zone in the second quarter to give the Panthers a lead they would not relinquish and he set up another score with an acrobatic 51-yard catch on the Panthers’ first play of the third quarter.
BIG EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Campa • Sr. • LB • Louisville • Orlando, Fla. Campa had a career-high 15 tackles to go with two sacks, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble — all game highs — in a 10-9 win against Syracuse. Campa keyed a Cardinal defense that limited the Orange to 266 yards of offense and forced two turnovers.
BIG EAST SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Devin McCourty • Sr. • CB • Rutgers • Nanuet, N.Y. McCourty had a forced fumble on punt coverage and came up with his sixth career blocked kick with a punt block in the Scarlet Knights’ 31-0 win against USF. McCourty also had 36 yards on kickoff returns and registered a team-high nine tackles to help Rutgers to its first shutout of a BIG EAST opponent since 1993.

Strange. Top defensive guys like Pierre-Paul and Selvie aren’t on these lists. Odd. ;)
