Doing their part

By Aditi on 13. Oct, 2009

usf.fansI wrote yesterday about South Florida’s all-out effort to sell-out Raymond James Stadium for Thursday’s big tilt with no. 8 Cincinnati. Well, today, the students have done their part.

South Florida’s student allottment of 12,501 – biggest in the Big East – is entirely gone. USF officials have now designated a section of the upper bowl as student section 1A, with seats available for $10. Assistant athletic director Chris Freet says he could see this game pulling the largest student section ever for South Florida.

I, for one, totally believe in a 12th man. That doesn’t mean a 12th man is always a difference-maker. I wonder. Cincinnati came in to Rutgers, in week one, and played to a crowd of 52,000-plus on an afternoon a new expansion was unveiled. The Bearcats weren’t fazed. Cincinnati went across the country to Oregon State and played to a crowd that came about 3,000 shy of capacity. The Bearcats weren’t fazed then either. Of course, Cincinnati wasn’t ranked in the top 10 – or ahead of Ohio State – then, the Bearcats hadn’t been hearing about their BCS potential then, expectations were totally different then. Cincinnati’s seemed pretty cool up until now, but if Raymond James sells out, if USF’s d-line plays like the NFL line Syracuse coach Doug Marrone says it is… like I said, I wonder.
