Nothing outstanding from Jeff Green or Roy Hibbert in their teams’ regular season openers tonight. Hibbert scored 2 points in 6 minutes off the bench in the Pacers’ 100-94 loss to the Pistons. Green had 7 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals in the Thunder’s loss to the Bucks.

Cards’ Wide-out Scott Long Out for the Season
Coming off his best performance of his career, Scott Long will be out for the season after tearing his ACL in practice yesterday. This is a very tough blow for the Cards as they just started to look like a team that could make some noise in this Big East conference race, but more importantly for Long. This is the second time Long has torn his ACL, who also had to battle back from a foot injury that kept him out for the first four games of this season. Last Saturday Long had a career performance at home against South Florida, catching five passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Hopefully, the junior wide out will recover quickly enough to get prepared to have a solid senior season.
While Long’s injury does not kill the Cards chances to make a run at a conference title, it definitely hurts. Long proved to be Louisville’s best deep threat. Over those three games, Long led the Cards with 201 yards receiving and two td’s. The Cards still have enough weapon’s on offense to get the job done, they just won’t be as versatile as they were with Long in the lineup.
Cinci Loses Top Recruit to Injury
Freshmen point guard Cashmere Wright tore a ligament in his right knee during practice this week and will miss the rest of the season.
The Bearcats recruited Wright so their leading scorer Deonta Vaughn could move from point guard to shooting guard, but with Wright’s injury that will not be an option.
Despite the loss of Wright, coach Mick Cronin feels that the Bearcats are still on track.
“I want our fans to know that although we have had some setbacks, we are on the right track and our kids are working very hard. Our best days are ahead of us and we can’t wait to get started this year.”-Cronin
Pitt QB Still Questionable for Saturday
After suffering a head injury against Rutgers this weekend, Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback Bill Stull‘s status remains questionable for the Notre Dame game on Saturday. Stull has thrown for 1,562 yards and 4 touchdowns in seven starts this season, and has tallied over 220 passing yards in six of the last seven games. If the red shirt junior is unable to play against the Irish, Pitt will put sophomore Pat Bostick behind center.
Regardless of who starts on Saturday Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis will not change his gameplan.
”The big difference is Stull has more experience, but Bostick is a very similar quarterback, and they don’t have to change what they’re doing just because they’re changing who their quarterback is.”-Weis
Weis went on to say that he is more concerned about running back LeSean McCoy than either QB.
”They want to feed [McCoy] the ball, and we’re going to have to show that we can stop them or else it’s going to be a long day for the Irish.”
Teel wins USA Today National Player of the Week
After a phenominal 361-yard, six touchdown performance Saturday in Rutgers’ 54-34 win over No. 17 Pittsburgh, senior quarterback Mike Teel was named USA Today National Player of the Week.
Teel earned 63 percent of the fan vote which comprised one-third of the overall voting. Teel, after Saturday’s performance, has nine touchdown passes and eight interceptions on the season and will lead he Scarlet Knights against Syracuse following this weekend’s bye.
Pitino has no set lineup for Georgetown College
Head coach Rick Pitino hasn’t said for sure what the starting lineup will be this Saturday for the Cards initial exhibition against Georgetown College, but four of the five spots will most likely belong to Andre McGee, Jerry Smith, Earl Clark, and Samarado Samuels. The small forward position remains open as Terrence Williams is still recovering from a knee injury.
Smith, who was the best three point shooter on the team last year, should have more open looks if Samuels is able to draw double teams in the post as expected. The rest of the perimeter players for the Cards should benefit as well if they are able to space the floor well.
The game will give Pitino a chance to see how well the other freshmen in addition to Samuels have learned the offense since arriving on campus and to get a glimpse of how he will us specialty players like Kyle Kuric, who is known primarily as a lights out shooter.
Expect to see Clark play some minutes at the small forward position as well, because rumor has it that Pitino wants to see how a lineup of Samuels, freshman Terrence Jennings, and Clark perform together on the court. Clark has enough range to play the position and could be a huge matchup problem for opposing teams if the lineup is successful.
Card’s Grady Named Defensive Player of the Week
Louisville defensive tackle, Adrian Grady, was named defensive player of the week after the Cards win over South Florida. Grady was a man on the field for the Cardinal defense. He recorded seven tackles and two sacks, as the Cards allowed only eight yards rushing. Along with Grady, the Cardinals D was able to put significant pressure on Bulls qb Matt Grothe and forced two interceptions. The Cards defense also recorded 5 sacks on the day.
Roy Hibbert: Stale Prince of Bel-Air
Well this is a gem. Fast forward to 3:43 to see our beloved big man sing the theme from Fresh Prince. In four years Roy never heard that many boos.
Cards Need to Stay Focused
Coming off their most impressive win this season, the Cardinal football team must now stay focused and keep their eyes on the prize. Before the start of the season, I thought eight wins for this group of Cards would be an awesome step in the right direction. After starting the season with an ugly loss at home to Kentucky, along with an unexplainable home loss to Uconn to kick off Big East play, eight wins for this team seemed a bit optimistic. Now, after defeating then Big East top dog South Florida, the Cards (5-2, 1-1) are in a good position to shock all doubters. For the Cards to be a real contender for the Big East title, they have got to keep their heads down and keep grinding. The last time the Cards looked like they had started to turn the corner was the Kansas State game. After an impressive performance against the Wildcats, the Cards followed it up with their stunning loss to the Huskies. Stunning in that the Cards racked up over 500 total yards of offense, while allowing Uconn to gain less than 300 and still found a way to lose the game. For the Cards to get over the hump, they must prove that they can follow up a big win with a must win. Nothing would be more disappointing to the Cards season then following up their win over the Bulls last Saturday with another loss to Syracuse on the road.
